Project Overview

LokLok turns your phone's lock screen into a synchronized white board between you and the person you share your life with. Use it to leave notes, drawings and photos on your partner's lock screen.

Project Brief

LokLok takes messaging to another level.

We reach to our phones around 140 times a day and the first thing we see is a static lock screen waiting to be swiped away. LokLok replaces this with a truly meaningful and intimate connection between two or more people.

Draw directly on your lock screen and it synchronises immediately with whoever you're connected to. There are no notifications and no history. It's brilliantly simple.

LokLok is not meant to replace any other communication app, but rather introduce a new channel that is dedicated to communicating emotionally and creatively in very small and private groups.

Features:
• No notifications, it just waits for you to grab your phone
• Works like a white board, erase what’s there or draw over it
• Take a photo for others to see and draw over the photos they take
• No history is saved, once you erase it it’s gone
• Groups are completely private, nobody can see you or search for you
• Works on tablets and also as a full size widget

NOTE: we're in Beta and rapidly iterating, so don't be surprised to find new features in the app!

Project Need

LokLok is a messaging channel that is specifically designed for close relationships. It is private, has no notifications and no history. It's designed for a type of communication that is more about emotion than productivity.

By placing it on the lock screen we make sure users interact with it every time they switch on their devices, which makes loklok connections feel of close and intimate.

This creates a new category of messaging/social apps and services that are primarily designed for the lock screen. It also pushes the boundaries in the messaging landscape, by using tools and encourage creativity and form new habits of communication.

User Experience

LokLok is meant to feel as seamless as possible:

- It looks transparent so as to blend with your launcher.

- It has no notifications because it's always the first thing on your screen.

- It has no history because we believe it makes for a more care-free experience.

- Most importantly, it's there without you even asking for it and without adding any extra steps to your experience.

Project Marketing

- Target a particular type of relationship that is intimate and casual, across a wide demographic range.

- Address specific niches in our communication: Lifestyle/Women (loklok as a couple's app), Tech/Lifestyle/General Media (cleaver and innovative messaging app), Business (kwamecorp creates loklok), Productivity (fastest note taking app ever)

- Strong focus on the community. Creating a platform for users to share their creations, promoting competitions for best drawings.

- Referrals. Several in-app mechanisms that we run continuous A/B tests on, such as direct invites, posting on social networks, recommending loklok via other apps.

- Engaging with brands. Allow users to invite brands into their board. The brand user can post content to the board and users interact with it. Several opportunities for exposing loklok to wider audiences without interfering with the rest of the users.

- Direct PR to influencers and journalists on important milestones such as switching to open Beta or releasing new features. The product development is aligned with this.

- We will launch the iOS version once the Android version has had full exposure to the market. We're doing this because replacing the lock screen on iOS is impossible, which will change the experience of the app and we don't want it to take away from the innovation of the Android version.

Project Privacy

- Groups are private and users are invisible to others unless they've connected on loklok before or if they're also facebook friends.

- We don't keep any record of past communications. The only thing we store on our servers is the current state of the group. Every change that is made on the loklok whiteboard replaces the last one, we don't keep any images or historic data.

- We use facebook for friend finding, but we don't post or send any message on the user's behalf (except if user explicitly shares an image).

- We keep essential information only. We use google for login on android so as to not keep any passwords or sensitive data.

- All communication with our servers is encrypted.
