Project Overview

The project tries to explore more meaning from the materials. With the new construction method used on the old material, the restaurant space will stimulate the clients' 5 senses which include the taste, smell, touching and hearing. Food is the part of service in this restaurant, but not the only item can be provided to the client.

Project Brief

Under the inspiration from traditional Chinese landscape culture and adoption of the iconic symbol of Chinese Garden – Taihu Stone, the design extracts and represents the essence of traditional Chinese aesthetics through various layers of spaces. The interior space delivers the elegance of Orientalism – the harmony between humankind and nature, which will lead visitors to find the inner peace. By following the stairs decorated with bamboo mat ceilings, the guests will enter the dining area while enjoying the scenery of Chinese garden. The water curtains create a delightful flowing cover blurring the boundaries between the garden view and the outside. The switch and contrast among each interior space not only create a fun discovering atmosphere for the guests but also bring more sensation to their hearts.

Project Need

By following the stairs decorated with bamboo mat ceilings, the guests will enter the dining area while enjoying the scenery of Chinese garden. The water curtains create a delightful flowing cover blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The switch and contrast among each interior space not only create a fun discovering atmosphere for the guests but also bring more sensation to their hearts. We bring the exterior elements inside to make the interior space delivers the elegance of Orientalism – the harmony between humankind and nature, which will lead visitors to find the inner peace.

Design Challenge

Within the exterior material used in interior space, the project tried to bring the traditional architectural language into the modern space and bring the exterior material into interior space. The challenge of finding a new method to use the material always exist during the design process.

Sustainability

We used the natural timber, bamboo as the main material used in the shop fitting works to reduce the construction waste. The waste of the old and dumped kitchenware in the existing kitchen are redesigned to be re-used as the decorations on the interior wall and ceiling. At the same time, we chose different energy-saving energy LED lights with dimmer to make sure the minimum electric power will be used in the shop.
