WINNERS ANNOUNCED 2013 Sydney Design Awards

Celebrating courage in design from both commissioners and creators, the Sydney Design Awards are pleased to announce that the City of Sydney wins the Design Champion Award at the 2013 Sydney Design Awards.

The Design Champion Award is presented to the most significant body of work in the Awards. This year City of Sydney were the commissioners of four significant projects across five categories –Urban Design Landscape Design – Commercial, Architecture - Mixed - Use – Constructed.

Celebrating courage in design from both commissioners and creators, the Sydney Design Awards are pleased to announce that the City of Sydney wins the Design Champion Award at the 2013 Sydney Design Awards.

The Design Champion Award is presented to the most significant body of work in the Awards. This year City of Sydney were the commissioners of four significant projects across five categories –Urban Design Landscape Design – Commercial, Architecture - Mixed - Use – Constructed.

The projects were Sydney Laneway Upgrades - Angel Place & Chinatown, Pitt Street Mall Public Domain, Walla Mulla and Bourke Street Parks and Prince Alfred Park + Pool

Chris Elliot Architects, Frost* Design and Principals have been announced as the Best Creators in 2013 Sydney Design Awards. These were announced by Mark Bergin, Awards Director, design100 on Wednesday 16 October at the Beresford Hotel, Sydney.

'The Design Champion Award recognises the courage to commission a body of work. This year the City of Sydney have lead the pack with an outstanding set of entries', says Mark Bergin, Awards Director. 'There have been an extraordinary range of winners', continues Bergin, 'who have really pushed the boundaries to design fresh and innovative outcomes. The designers have been bold, as have those that have commissioned them; each wanting the best possible design outcome and it is pleasing that is what they have achieved.

Along with these, 37 category winners were also announced on the evening.

Winners include: Chep – Graphic Design Corporate Identity and Branding; Walla Mulla – Landscape Design Commercial; Digital Experience – Website – Khai Liew; and Interior Design - Corporate or Hospitality – Lightspeed amongst many other inspirational design projects.

The winners and Best of Awards were based on over 2,500 ratings from the marketplace, industry and judging panel.

Category winners have been determined by a combination of the judging panel, industry and marketplace ratings, all ratings for each project are aggregated and averaged. Awards are provided to the leading entry with the highest average. This ensures that the Awards showcase the best of the design industry as determined by the market, industry and the panel.

The Sydney Design Awards form part of the City Design Awards, a global multi-disciplinary awards program open across 5 categories – Marketplace, Space, Visual, Object, and Experience and feature a wide range of sub-categories covering excellence across all design areas, including products and furnishings, architecture, interiors, landscape design, advertising graphic design, fashion and digital media.

65 design projects were selected as finalists in the 2013 Sydney Design Awards which this year attracted over 200 entrants.
