Project Brief

Originally an old bowling club house, the house structure was transported to its current location and converted to a residence by previous owners.
With the idea of friends and family gathering at the house for weekends, the current amenities were reviewed. As a response the kitchen was replaced, an en suite added and the existing bathroom remodeled. Flooring was replaced and internal doors moved to allow for a better flow through areas.

Project Need

The need for larger space saw the addition of decking areas to the front and back of the property. These allow for private relaxation or entertaining. At the rear of the house an expected swing positioned with views of the beach creates a cocooning nook, bringing comfort and pleasure to the forefront of this home.

Design Challenge

The challenge on this design was the location. A complete knockdown was considered but being so close to the beach, stipulations would have seen the new build positioned a further 5 meters back into the property, hence we modified the existing dwelling, opening up the space as much as possible.

Sustainability

Being a beach location, natural finishes where specified as much as possible. A lot of the original materials in the dwelling were reused in the current design, for example the timber flooring was salvaged where possible.
