Summary

I am a textile artist and designer who has developed site-specific artworks for major festivals and has designed/made costumes for many years. In addition to Pleiades (a community art work) other recent major works include Rain Sonnet - the text of A Midsummer Night's Dream reproduced in glass raindrops as a wearable bodice. During 2011 on an Arts Tasmania residency the prototype was developed for the Talking Skirt.

I have recently started working with glass and love the science behind glass work and making glass beads inside hollow glass beads.

For Design100 I have chosen to enter a work that has hollow glass plus glass that has changed colour with the use of copper. The technical challenge was keeping the tension in the silver and soldering the join in the infinity bracelet.

Organisation

Inspiration/Method

The glass work represents the fragility of life and ideas.
Inside the hollow glass are tiny hand made paper scrolls that represents dreams and hopes.
The little scrolls have been tied with silk that I dyed with eucalyptus from the Launceston Cataract Gorge. The Gorge is very close to my studio and an area where I spend much time being inspired.
There are eight hollow glass chambers with the little scrolls.
There is one bead that is made by the chemical reaction of the Italian glass to the copper and this represents the universe.
All this is supported by a stainless steel symbol of infinity that has been folded in half to form a bracelet.

Design Challenge

For Design100 I have chosen to enter a work that has hollow glass plus glass that has changed colour with the use of copper. The technical challenge was keeping the tension in the silver and soldering the join in the infinity bracelet.
