Project Overview

The Targeting Maths 3 app is an amazing way to learn mathematics. Within this app, Year 3 students can access a huge range of activities that make learning maths fun, motivating and full of rewards.

The game includes hundreds of questions in varying formats and modes that cover the entire Year 3 maths curriculum. Students can clearly measure their performance with the ability to earn points and collect badges. The multiplayer mode allows students to play against each other on the same device, making it ideal for the classroom. Students race each other to correctly answer questions, earning points for speed and accuracy.

This app makes the challenge of learning maths into a motivating and satisfying game.

Project Brief

Blake Education's Targeting Maths is already a successful book series for the primary maths curriculum, so they decided to bring it to life on the iPad and introduce the concept of gamified learning.

They briefed us on creating a highly visual app, incorporating activities that teach the skills and concepts of maths while keeping students engaged and having fun. It also needed to provide high levels of feedback and a strong sense of progression and achievement.

For teachers and parents, a complete summary of the student's performance needed to be available to assess student's strengths and weaknesses.

Project Need

Highly engaging, slightly whimsical and with stylised robotic characters, the artwork is designed to be memorable and to help keep kids interested and entertained.

More than just skills and drills, Targeting Maths 3 is a stand-out in covering the complete maths curriculum and has a strong focus on problem solving. Questions are posed in a variety of ways and with gaming techniques keeping children motivated to continue learning and improving.


Design Challenge

With so much competition in the education app space, we developed an unusual look and feel based on a 'steam punk' style. This irresistible combination of playfulness, engagement and learning, attracts all students, even those who don’t normally enjoy maths.



Sustainability

By developing a solid iOS app foundation, we have been able to efficiently grow the Targeting Maths series to complete the full Primary School curriculum.




This award celebrates innovation and creativity in design of a unique user experience in the combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content for games. Consideration given to clarity of communication and the matching information style to audience.
