Two Threads creates distinctive, affordable, Melbourne-made clothing that is versatile, wearable and comfortable - for women of all shapes, sizes and ages.
We design quirky pieces that are often unconventionally shaped and feature left-of-centre elements like raw edges, outside seams and asymmetrical cuts.
We enjoy creating beautiful, timeless pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways according to preference or mood.
Our garments are functional, flexible, and fun to wear!

We created a multi-functional, winged tunic and had a lot of fun photographing it, not only on our model, but on a number of 'real women'.

Team

We're the two heads behind Two Threads:
Sally Anderson and Karen Fennell.
Often we're mistaken for sisters, but in fact we are long-time friends who share a passion for fashion, fabric,art and food. Together, we indulge our bowerbirdish tendencies to fossick and collect and then upcycle our objects into new works of wonder - creating inspiring clothing that women like us would enjoy wearing.

Inspiration/Method

Our seasonal collections are often inspired by the mood or texture of an unusual fabric. Japanese printed cotton, Australian jersey, denim and a variety of felted wool feature in our ranges.
We take carefully chosen cloth in unexpected directions by deconstructing, manipulating, twisting, tucking, layering, playing with shapes and contrasts, not knowing where we're going until one of us says "That's it!...Stop!!"

Most pieces feature unorthodox design details like external seams, often with raw edges and asymmetrical lines.
We also like to include recycled elements such as over-dyed lace, found objects, shirting, suiting, and men's ties.
You name it, we'll use it!
Our collections reflect a very Melbourne palette of black, grey, browns and reds with floral or textual accents.
Garments can often be layered and worn in a variety of different ways, from one season to the next.

Two Threads is passionately and proudly Melbourne-owned, made by us in our warehouse studio. We source all supplies locally and actively support like-minded businesses.

Design Challenge

This season our challenge was to design a single, beautiful, timeless piece that was both versatile and wearable.

We created this multi-functional, winged tunic with clean lines that enable it to be tied, draped, folded and layered for a purpose, for effect, or just for fun!

The design features of this piece enable women of a variety of shapes, sizes and ages to comfortably enjoy wearing it in many different ways, according to mood, style and desire.
Not only have we photographed it on a model, as part of our new seasons range, but also on a number of real women of varying sizes... aged 15 to 70 plus.
