Team

Mairi Ward is an artist, designer, maker based in Tasmania, Australia. She works in a variety of media including painting, print, paper construction and ceramics. Life is the core of her practice. In 2009 Mairi began to explore design, creating digital surface designs using imagery taken directly from her paintings. These designs have been printed onto a range of surfaces including fabric, paper and ceramic decals.

Inspiration/Method

The ceramic objects are slip cast Cool Ice porcelain, with glazed interiors and hand polished exteriors with decals. After the slip is first cast, each piece is extensively hand finished by shaping while wet followed by sanding before and after firing and during the application of decals. The Decal design is created using imagery from my paintings.

Design Challenge

Making a handmade object in the right price range.
