Project Overview

Quizling is a fast and simple way to create quiz games that will challenge your kids and your class.

Quizling is the first app developed by EEP! We're school teachers, designers and friends and we're very pleased with our app. It's fun, it works and students are enjoying, playing and learning with Quizling!

Thanks for your interest!

Project Brief

Less than a year ago, we we're sitting in a restaurant in Sydney talking about education apps.

During that meal we made the decision to go beyond discussing education apps and to start working our own app. An app that we’d like to use with our own kids, our own students in our own classrooms.

On that night our aims were to:
1. Design a quiz app that was simple to use, that looked good and was reliable;
2. Create an app that would allow teachers, students and parents to have fun and enhance their own learning experience; and
3. Critically, to produce an app that we would want to use ourselves.

Quizling is our first app, we've enjoyed making it and we believe we have achieved these aims (and, importantly, we're all still friends!).

Project Need

Quizling is the best and most sophisticated quiz making app available in the App Store.

Pedagogical Need
- Kids (and adults) love quizzes. They love the competition, they pay attention and they learn.

- Quizlings can be used to introduce new topics, review old topics or just to have fun.

- Quizling makes it easy to make quizzes.

- Teachers at all levels of education - from kindergarten to university - can customise the content of the quiz to their own classes.

- Better yet, the kids are making the quizlings themselves!

- Quizlings can be edited at anytime - it is easy to revise a quizling to a new need in a new class.

Technological Need
-There are technological opportunities (and limitations) provided within a school environment.

- Within the classroom, Quizling is quick to deploy and reliable.

- Most classrooms in Australia (and many in the UK, America and Canada) have smart boards or digital projectors. These technologies are - in our experience - largely under utilised. Quizling uses iPhones and iPads to 'repurpose' existing infrastructure and make these spaces more interactive and more pedagogically productive.

User Experience

There are three components to Quizling's User Experience.
1. Creating a quiz
2. Playing a quiz
3. Managing the quizzes.

1. Creating a quiz
Quizling is designed to be very easy to use. Primary school kids are able to make a quiz and test their classmates. At the same time, University lecturers are able to compile a quick quiz before a seminar. Quizling makes it simple to create a quiz.

2. Playing a quiz
- Quizling is designed to be simple to play.

-Big buttons and gesture based 'flip to progress' result in a minimal need to 'look' at the app. Attention can be focussed where it should be... on the class and the game.

- Quizling is visually striking – the design is clear and crisp. Questions are visible from the back of the class on a wide variety of smart boards and projectors.

- Quizling is designed to be bright and cheerful and to engage both the eye and the mind.

3. Managing the quizzes
- We're especially proud of the robust and intuitive folder system. It is incredibly easy to move quizlings into and out of folders and to rename, rearrange or delete questions or quizzes.

We aimed to make it easy and simple to create, play and manage quizlings. We believe we've achieved this goal.

Project Marketing

Our marketing strategy has two aims: firstly, to sell the app and secondly, to develop a brand.

The goal, at this early stage, is to seed the app with the early adaptors, to grow and to extend.

To this end, we've developed a website and an engaging video. We're also using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to extend and support the fledging app and develop the brand.

Facebook and Instagram are being used to distribute our daily 'Did You Know' trivia infographics. These infographics have been picked up by other groups within our community of interest. Twitter is being used to directly and more personally engage with teachers around the world.

We're also directly targeting universities and teachers - again with the aim of seeding the app throughout our targeted regions.

Our aim for Quizling is long term and the strategies we're using reflect this goal.
