The Champagne Suite at The New York Palace Hotel

[interview] the project story

Gold

Project Overview

The Champagne Suite is a luxurious, multi-level penthouse located at the historic, world-renowned New York Palace. The new design for the suite brings together modern and classic design elements to create a glamorous space. Inspired by the creation and qualities of champagne, the team incorporated black, bronze, amber, gold and cream along with layers of texture into the interior palette. The result is a 21st century modernist interpretation fit for the senses: shimmering bronze, platinum and champagne-inspired tones contrasting with rich onyx and dark woods; textured stone and smooth glossy marble; custom lighting, furnishings, and art; and specialty treatments and finishes.

Project Brief

The Champagne Suite at The New York Palace Hotel was inspired by one of the world's most iconic champagne brands. Without the use of logos or signage, the team made abstract references to the brand by using floor coverings, color palettes and lighting fixtures that are reminiscent of the logo and the company's historic manifesto. Upon entering the suite, guests are drawn into the Grand Parlor, surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. A custom-designed chandelier created from individual curved droplets of multi-colored, hand-blown glass are strung at varying lengths provides a magnificent focal point and summon the images of bubbles in a champagne glass. The dining room is adjacent to the Grand Parlor and furnished with a stately wood table accented by crystal fixtures and sleek wall finishes. Upstairs, the master suite continues that theme, using a palette derived from the Chardonnay grape, while the double queen suites takes notes from the Pinot Noir grape, both key varietals in champagne. A classically-inspired library offers additional entertaining and lounging space. The third and top floor of the suite hosts a rooftop lounge, with fireplace, and an outdoor terrace complete with a custom-designed spa.

Project Innovation/Need

The Champagne Suite offers a one-of-a-kind experience for guests seeking the ultimate in luxury and hospitality. With exclusive amenities, rare champagne, fine dining, custom furnishings and finishes along with world-class views and a private terrace, guests every need is fulfilled without their having to leave the comfort of the suite. The addition of the Champagne Suite provides a major revenue source that did not exist previously for the New York Palace, as it now rivals those spaces offered at other globally-renowned, five-star luxury properties. Since its unveiling, the space has been in high-demand, rented out for weeks and even months by clients who seek this level of unparalleled luxury and service all set in exquisite surroundings.

Design Challenge

HOK was challenged to create a one-of-a-kind luxury experience that honors a historic hotel, Manhattan's classic Art Deco skyline and an iconic champagne brand. An addition challenge was made to represent the world renown, iconic champagne brand without the use of logos and signage. In response to the challenges, HOK created a new bespoke suite imbued with luxury, custom-made touches and other features, providing guests an escape unlike any other in New York City. HOK took inspiration from the champagne itself as well as the qualities and elements associated with the acclaimed brand.
