Project Context
Named Eden Project North, the new attraction is centred around a series of pavilions inspired by the natural shape of mussels. The pavilions will house indoor and outdoor experiences on the seafront of Morecambe, connecting visitors with the natural environment.
Project Innovation
The visuals for Eden Project North, released by Grimshaw, show five curvaceous wedge-shaped pavilions crowning the seafront, which take the form of mussel shells.
Each mussel functions as a glasshouse, containing different marine environments that will introduce people to the "internationally significant" natural environment of Morecambe Bay.
Elsewhere the attraction will have lidos and gardens combined with a mixture of observatories and performance spaces, which will be used to promote well-being. The complex is wrapped by of walkways and plazas, which extend down from the pavilions to connect the land and sea.
Dave Harland, chief executive of Eden Project International Limited, said: "We're incredibly proud to present our vision for Eden Project North and hope that the people of Morecambe and the surrounding area are as excited about it as we are.
"We aim to reimagine what a seaside destination can offer, with a world-class tourist attraction that is completely in tune with its natural surroundings."
