Project Brief

Our challenge was to design a platform that clearly showed the government that majority of Australians want action on climate change now, not in 2050. Climate change is no longer a polarising issue, the government’s only option is to act.

Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) had gathered qualitative (stories) and quantitative (Poll) data, and we needed to use these to design a compelling experience and call to action to present to government at election time.

Our solution needed to engage and enable individuals, groups and businesses who have not taken advocacy action before, to do so without friction.

Project Need

It was important to ensure people felt safe to share their voice on climate action. Research revealed the audience feared they would be labelled as extreme if they spoke up in hostile environments.

Our solution uses personal stories that share a tangible experience others can relate to. These stories successful in evoking an emotional respose and inspiring others to take action and add their voice to the cause.

Together We Can prioritises clear action over dense information. The audience didn't need to know the details of 'how' in order to share their personal experience and demand action from leaders.

ACF conducted the biggest and most in-depth poll of climate change in Australia. To leverage this depth of content, we built custom code so users could explore the results for themselves with ease.

You can enter a postcode or electorate to see what people in your local area think about key climate action issues.

The custom code allows the database of stories to grow over time. While the code is complex and intricate behind the scenes, it’s wildly clean, simple and flexible for the users, ensuring the longevity of the platform. When people sign up and share their stories to the website, a selection of sharable images are generated to share, save or download. It also makes sharing what you care about, your story and what action you want to see easily sharable with the MPs in your postcode.

User Experience

We designed, facilitated and sythensised two rounds of user/audience testing through workshops, interviews and prototype run throughs.

These learnings informed the final result: clear, contextual, easy-to-digest information that is inclusive across key climate audience segments.

We designed the brand identity, brand guidelines, icon set, posters, social media assets, the website and the content template for stories so ACF had everything they needed to run a successful campaign.

The brand uses bright, saturated, hopeful colours with a bold black font to convey the power of the succinct messages and call to actions in the campaign.

The experience of exploring the Together We Can website is satisfying and geared towards action. With just the right balance of informative and emotive content, people are assured that their voice is powerful and their story matters.

Importantly, it’s clear that the purpose of Together We Can is action, not discussing the ins-and-outs of already proven solutions.

Project Marketing

Together We Can starts conversation where they may not have been had before. It shows Australians that people completely different to them can have similar views on climate change—from a coal miner, to a teacher, to a farmer, to a school student, to a lifesaver, to a pensioner—helping them feel part of a mainstream movement.

Together We Can brings people together and shows federal, state and local governments that climate change isn’t just a ‘left’ issue—it’s everyone's.
ACF are taking the diverse voices of Australians to Canberra after the 2022 election because we need climate action now.

Together We Can launched in October 2021 and was supported by ambassadors like Julia Zemiro (https://www.instagram.com/p/CXP9WRhPp10/), received coverage in national press (https://www.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/australia-s-biggest-climate-poll-shows-support-for-action-in-every-seat-20210829-p58mwb.html).

This category is all about helping our communities to connect and engage, from emergency services to Not for Profits to social groups, these apps and sites not may not only assist in delivery but also create efficiencies providing those at the coalface more time to do their important work whether it be fighting fires or managing the local team. It's not all serious though we're also looking for projects that work to help bring the community groups together with fun and enjoyable activities.
