Project Overview

The residential building was designed by Richard Meier, the master of White architecture. In response to the bustling era nowadays, the white building is the medium to reflect the relationship between space, dimension, and aesthetics of light and shadow. With a great amount of glass panels on the facades and use of windows, each unit enjoys three-sided natural lighting and decent ventilation. The building can thus interact beautifully with the urban environment and natural landscape.

Project Brief

The main visual and conceptual design is composed of three elements: the linear outline of the construction, the gradual color of the sunset sky, and the light/shadow depicted with the concept of 3D space.

Lines of different length used in the logo set up diverse geometrical shapes. They interpret the building base, glass panels, and different materials, as well embodying interaction and communication of the city and the architecture. These lines are the depiction of diverse architectural expressions of fluid wind, light, clouds and shadow. As for the gradual colors from white to blue are the colors of the city skyline, the view of sky with sunshine and shadow moving around.

Just like Richard Meier’s passion and insistence on white, “Whiteness, in a sense, reflects nature, light, it makes you more aware of the colors of nature,” the design echoes Richard Meier’s architectural design concept. The logo depicts the city skyline and fluidity of light and shadow reflecting on the simplistic white building, resulting in a symbol of modern construction.

Project Innovation/Need

The south side of the building site is surrounded by the river, while the main roads around bring in the vitality to the space. Rivers are the cradles of nature, greenery, civilization and culture. On the other hand, connections of roads and rivers symbolize resources, prosperity, wealth and popularity. People of all kinds look for an exquisite taste of life in this building. Thus, with “日“ and “匯” as its name, they each symbolizes “the high-rise sun” and “the confluence.”

Thus, the design of the Logo and advertisement emphasize this spirit. With elements of a city and an architecture, the simple and modern visual identity design is created. Developing from the character “日,“ the purest and most original construction is outlined by vertical and horizontal elements, symbolizing the building that is illuminated and encircled by the sun.

Design Challenge

White architecture symbolizes an everlasting purity of white.
Richard Meier once defined the white color from his point of view:” White is the most wonderful color because within it you can see all the colors of the rainbow.” In his design, white is not only about whiteness, it is a color that can contain and embrace everything.

While “日” means the sun, it is another symbolic form of whiteness since the color of the sun is “white.” Under the illumination of sunlight, we can see so many different colors in the natural world.

Thus, developing from the character “日,“ the purest and most original construction and LOGO are outlined by vertical and horizontal elements, which also symbolizes the building that is illuminated and encircled by the “sun”. The LOGO is thus designed with white color as the basis, combining other colors and lines as the other details. The visual identity of the other advertisement is integrated with more colors, to express the architectural thinking and spirit that embrace everything.

Effectiveness

The design wishes to emphasize on the spirit of the construction. Through applying symbolic elements of city and architecture, it forms a concise and modern visual identity. It helps improve expressing interaction/ relation between the architecture and the city, depicting the architectural expressions of fluid wind, light, cloud and shadow.

Setting a new landmark internationally, “New Charm, The One of Sky” expresses innovative ideas with elegant languages. The consistency of aesthetics between the visual identity and the architectural design helps the brand to tell its story more clearly, always insisting on the beautiful things for the brand.
