Project Brief

The project is located in the fairy tale town in the northwest of the planning area of Sichuan LEGO new area, with a planned land area of about 87,000㎡, a planned total land of 86684㎡ and a proposed total construction area of 63000㎡.
The main entrance is set near the west road, the east-west main axis and the north-south axis run through the whole campus. The primary school area is independently set in the northwest of the site. The dynamic and static zoning is implemented for junior and senior high schools, and the dormitory building is set in the northeast area, close to the municipal park. The teaching building area of junior and senior high schools is set in the southwest combined with the sports ground. The lecture hall is located on the east-west axis of the campus entrance, which will become the campus display image both internally and externally.

Project Innovation/Need

This international school refines and restores the humanistic spirit, campus space and place scale of the traditional western public school, integrates them into Chinese contemporary multiculturalism, and reproduces a "contemporary public school". In the design, the red brick throughout campus is used as the keynote color, while paying tribute to the history of Mianshi and also conveying a strong college style.

Design Challenge

The site’s height difference is large , reaching about 7 meters. Compared with the flexible design of simple and flat terrain, there are more restrictive factors here. But the pros and cons are always changing with each other. Seemingly complex design conditions may also become the most attractive and interesting part of the design. On the premise of meeting the basic function and scale, putting aside the style and pattern, architects start the overall design directly from the site conditions. Under the principle of respecting the site conditions and making rational use of the height difference, the design concept has been put forward, that is, organically integrate the building into the environment, combine and treat the height difference with the grandstand design, adapt to local conditions and divide the space reasonably, as well as reduce the earthwork and skillfully avoid the surrounding adverse factors.

Sustainability

Clay bricks are widely used in the building design facade, of which the thermal quality and natural thermal insulation performance could reduce the carbon footprint and impact on the environment, and can achieve long-term energy conservation. Meanwhile, good natural lighting and ventilation are considered in each building, which is conducive to the improvement of indoor teaching environment.
