Project Overview
The CrossFirePower Industrial Portable Lighting Ecosystem is designed to give construction workers better and safer working environment during the pandemic.
With full stack, cutting edge Advanced Manufacturing technology adopted by CrossFirePower R&D team, the range comprises core devices including a remote Li-Ion battery adapter, trackers with advanced sensing options and a wide range of third party commercial docks and accessories that have been configured to work with the CrossFirePower Adapter Base through a custom built smart circuit join.
The challenge was to create a complete system that collated all key functions in one user friendly intuitive system that encouraged uptake at scale in the target audience.

Summit trade and investment pty ltd
Team
CrossFirePower is a subsidiary R&D department of STI pty ltd in advanced manufacturing field and located at North Melbourne VIC 3053. Since May 2017, the department has developed over 160 products by using CNC, Additive Manufacturing technology with PLA+/PP materials. We have served ASI Electrics, NSW metro*, Toll AU, MM Electrical Merchandising, Ashdown-Ingram, Mondo, Best RV Repairs, AG Tyres Australia, Constance Heath, NSW Pathology along with 500+ other Australian Companies & 15,000+ Hard Working Aussies/Households with our advanced lightning equipment and other tools.
The department keep exploring in this new field by trying different materials and combinations. Department manager WEI HONG owns multiple IPs (patents, registered designs etc) in IP Australia Database for commercialize purposes.
Project Brief
The project exceeded the brief through the development of curated ‘solutions’ Wide Beam Lighting System, Focus Beam Lighting System and the Disinfection UV-C System. These solutions use various CrossFirePower core adapters and circuits in a configuration designed to provide users various levels of lighting conditions, with specialized patented voltage detector to act as a safety gate for that particular power source to avoid over-discharge issue.
Whilst each system in the product range works as standalone, their interoperability ensures the range can adapt and grow to fit the changing demands from targeted users.
A new outcome for the market is that a flexible range and equipment agnostic, so it provides multiple entry points that fit various voltage range power sources to an individual's experience level or ability. From a single adapter and circuit, users have the ability to build out a full lighting working environment.

Design Challenge
The design challenge came from really understanding the market's need; where the gaps were in existing offerings and what the barriers to adoption at scale were. Through extensive discovery sessions and application of the Standford Design Thinking model, CrossFirePower discovered that key drivers for the uptake of this type of system were increased productivity and profitability for the tradies and construction teams. With these elements in mind, the team aimed to develop a range that helped targeted audience with proficient choice for overnight work arrangement.
The goal was to replace the expensive and hefty equipment to enhance their working flexibility. In order to do this, the team knew that hardware would need to be easy to install for the end users, quick to commission, last in the field and durable in all tough working environment.
From the hardwearing casings, such as the adapter base that is milled out of a solid block of PLA+, to a hybrid connectivity approach, to the over-load protection circuit embedded, the lighting ecosystem is designed to meet these needs.
Sustainability
The packaging for all CrossFirePower products is recyclable cardboard and paper. The products themselves are built to last, reducing the need for replacement and wastage and using environmental friendly PLA+ and can be easily replaced with other materials based on demands, such as Nylon, Metal, ABS+ that all meet RoHs standard.
Product Design - Commercial & Industry
This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
