Project Overview
Designed by T.K. Chu Design, the Sales Center of Poly. FS. Skyline Garden is located in Dongguan City, Guangzhou Province, which is part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with rapid economic development. This transit-oriented development project is along the Dongjiang River with rich ecological resources and cultural atmospheres. Most of the people who choose to live here are the elites in the technology and manufacturing industries. Accordingly, the architecture and landscape start from human longing for the “skyline” and creates the theme of interstellar to touch the inner desire of the audience for unknown explorations.
For a 3-layer glass box, the interior is like a display in the vitrine, attracting passers-by. Starting from the starry sky, T.K. Chu Design creates a dreamlike “interstellar space station” in the interior. Sci-fi artworks are placed in the interior by collaboration with artists Cheng Hua, Lu Zheng and ALTTA. T.K. Chu Design acts as a curator and connects the imaginative spaces in a narrative way. The universe elements are deconstructed into spaceships, planets, meteorites, orbit, meteors, and others. Then, designers reconstruct them into different scenes, guiding visitors to complete “A Space Odyssey”. Moreover, the cultural symbols of Dongguan are projected on the ground floor in the form of digital art, in response to the city’s characteristics.

Project Brief
Embraced by universe elements, visitors start to embark on A Space Odyssey from 1F. At the reception entrance, a double-layered ceiling and walls are wrapped in an umbrella-like structure shaped by white lacquered panels. An art installation “0000FF” is hung in the middle of the space, as if a blue planet glows in outer space. A “capsule”-like VR room is situated on the other side of the entrance. Its main body is a digital art curtain, which projects the images of stars and iconic elements of Dongguan.
The 2F includes VIP rooms, offices, and display windows. The rear wall of the display space is decorated with blue starry fiber optic lights, while the rest walls have reflective surfaces, on which the white spherical lights are arranged in the form of the Big Dipper. They resemble a part of the universe, attracting pedestrians to watch through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
On the ceiling of 3F, a stainless steel plate spans the whole space from east to west, with the hollow interior shining like a starry river. A 36-meter-wide panoramic glass wall is opposite the elevator. The adjacent bar counter, furniture, and the ceiling are presented in a hemispherical or semi-circular shape, resembling debris and traces caused by the explosion of a planet. Next to the elevator is a property model area, with a colorful transparent polyhedral glass art installation on the top. Created by artist Cheng Hua, this art installation refracts surreal lights into the space, triggering the dreamlike visual perception.
Project Need
The project takes inspiration from the “skyline” to create an interstellar theme that features the juxtaposition of architecture and landscape with nature, city and culture. Accordingly, T.K. Chu Design proposed the idea of interstellar exploration in response to the project theme. The artist ALTTA integrated the concept of cosmic trek into an artwork tailored for the interior space, intending to turn the project into a transfer center on the earth that can link different universes and planets. In so doing, friends coming from the universe such as Space Dog, Spaceman Bobo and Titan can travel to the earth via the transfer center. Likewise, friends living on the earth can also be transported to the other planets through the transfer center. In between of see and be seen, the design guides the viewers to finish A Space Odyssey and unveils ways of seeing.
Design Challenge
The project named Skyline Garden is aimed to be built into an urban complex and a riverside upscale residence with a gorgeous river view. Most of the people who choose to live here are the elites working in the technology and manufacturing industries. Invited by Poly Property to complete this interior design project, T.K. Chu Design decided to focus on the keyword “skyline”, which can be traced as far back as the proverb of ancient Greece, “Per aspera ad astra”, or resonates with Elon Musk’s recent remark, “Making Life Multiplanetary”. T.K. Chu Design committed to creating a dreamlike “interstellar space station” in the interior that is able to reach and satisfy the inner desire of the clients for exploring an unknown world. In addition, through the collaboration with artists Lu Zheng, Cheng Hua and ALTTA, the designers set the sci-fi artworks and installations in the interior, so as to connect the imaginative spaces through curatorial narratives.
Sustainability
Currently, the project serves as a sales center, but for the sake of a sustainable development, it will not be demolished after the properties are sold out. Instead, it will be transformed into a chamber in the future, providing living services for the community residents. In addition, the art installation “0000FF”, which is suspended on the top of the ground floor entrance, is a glittering sphere powered by solar energy.

Open to all international projects this award celebrates innovative and creative building interiors, with consideration given to space creation and planning, furnishings, finishes, aesthetic presentation and functionality. Consideration also given to space allocation, flow, building services, lighting, fixtures, flooring, colours, furnishings and surface finishes.
