Project Overview

Located in Qingyang District, the project covers a land area of 43,000 ㎡, with a floor area ratio of 2.0. What features the project most is the three classic Chinese-style architectures built in the southeast corner, constituting the distinctive urban houses with courtyards unique to Chengdu. With this project, Greentown China has completed its three contemporary project series and has committed to creating the works with strategic importance.
At the unremarkable corner is the entrance. The horizontal transitional space with a long overhang presents an implicit feeling, inviting visitors to enter the space. Landscape elements at the front yard refer to classic Chinese gardens and get reorganized based on local conditions. Detailed parts reveal a tranquil atmosphere. From the veranda to the dynamic metal art installation, the team tried to build a quiet space from multiple dimensions. Here, residents can get away from the noise city.

Project Brief

Spatial diversity highlights the core space featuring oriental characteristics. Courtyards, planted with bamboo, are arranged on east and west sides. The white central space has a sloped roof, available for reflecting sunlight. Abstract geometric pattern at the center conforms to the value of Greentown and also expresses an artistic conception.
The designers seek to make the spatial form of the architecture complex conform to the traditional living pattern by designing different courtyards that scatter in the project. Therefore, the overall space in the master plan is well-arranged. The courtyard that leads to household serves as the public space for communication. When going home, the occupants pass here first and then stroll on the circuitous and quiet route and finally walk toward the private courtyard.

Project Innovation/Need

The project tries to interpret traditional Jiangnan courtyards via modern architectural languages, thereby creating distinctive spaces and venues, which not only fit into modern lifestyles but also respond to people's pursuit of traditional culture.

Design Challenge

Located on the south side and adjacent to an urban road, the sales center will be serve as an entrance lobby to the demonstration area after it completes its selling function. However, the limited site area brought difficulties to create a small yet distinctive sales center which is merely 200㎡. The biggest challenge was how to realize the integration of modern aesthetics and traditional Chinese elements in spatial organization.
This project, as a residential development, mainly consists of traditional Chinese courtyard dwellings and modern multi-level buildings. The biggest challenge lay in spatial organization and facade design. We tried to adopt both modern and traditional Chinese-style facade languages to interpret Oriental elegance. Although the facades of the two types of dwellings are contrasting, we worked to realize unity in terms of spatial patterns and spirit.

Sustainability

Sustainability of this project reflected mainly in the continuation of Oriental culture and aesthetics. This project, as a residential development, mainly consists of traditional Chinese courtyard dwellings and modern multi-level buildings. What features the project most is the three classic Chinese-style architectures built in the southeast corner, constituting the distinctive urban houses with courtyards unique to Chengdu. The spatial form of the architecture complex conform to the traditional living pattern by designing different courtyards that scatter in the project. Also the design adopt both modern and traditional Chinese-style facade languages to interpret Oriental elegance .
