Project Brief

From the design of the first store to the design of the second store in this project, the design team and the clients have gotten along like friends in the past three years. And, they have accompanied each other through difficult times. In this process, they have become more mature. They have more expectation for the space about the stability and spiritual balance. Therefore, the design team takes into account the restaurant’s meal price positioning, customer level and other factors in the space. Moreover, they adopt dark tones to present a steady atmosphere. In order to present the perseverance of the client who gets through setbacks and grows through tough experience. The design team adopts clean lines, cement texture, high color saturation and the combination of strong personality. To control the budget expenditure of the clients, the design team adopts lots of hard furnishings and some soft furnishings that used in the first store. Also, they adopt the design elements that impress customers, such as blue door and dream cloud as space decorations to inherit the client’s original spirit. It also allows customers to keep the memory of the first store when they visit the second store. The heartwarming atmosphere seems like meeting up with the old friends again.

Project Innovation/Need

The design team adopts the CLOUDS installation art of R. & E. Bouroullec, which also adopts in the first store. The CLOUDS installation art is full of spiritual significance. Also, it enhances the visual effect in the space, and it presents a process. The client’s process of having the part-time job in the café, and decided to found the shop. Thus, the client had the preparation for the star-up for five years. The clients persist in adopting good ingredients in order to present the persevere spirit. In addition, the design team takes into account the functionality, store atmosphere, and budget, adopting the rail lights of the first store above the bar to arrange the space. With the sharing of clients’ past business experience, the design team designs the seats that are faced to the windows, so the guests can walk around freely and enjoy the scenery outside the window like an old friend visiting.

Design Challenge

Because it is the second store where the client restarted, the most difficult thing to overcome is the budget in the design process. The design team adopts the hard furnishing of the first store, such as hanging display cabinets, guest tables, dining chairs and other soft furnishing to control the budget with the prospective aesthetics. In addition, the design team needs to take good advantage of the space in the design process, making the great traffic flow, saving unnecessary space waste. Also, it is also a major issue to optimize the productivity and efficiency of manpower. The design team takes into account the work habits and the configuration of the equipment and appliances. Thus, they keep communicating with the clients to plan a great traffic flow, so they finally come up with the most comfortable custom design. The signboards can’t be placed on large-scale exterior wall of the building. Therefore, the design team sophisticatedly adopts a few large-scale tungsten lamps in the store. Through the light in the store, the space attracts the attention of pedestrians.

Sustainability

The design team reserves the kitchen utensils, dining tables and doors of the original founding store, and continues to use them in the second store. They effectively adopt the soft furnishing that have been used for nearly five years in the space, including desktops, iron parts, and cabinets. These soft furnishing are recomposed and redesigned. The design team adopts the light chair that is known for durableness of the civilized Polish brand Fameg. The difficulties are that how to use existing objects as a base to perfectly take advantage of and create works that the clients are satisfied with. Moreover, the design team chooses energy-saving equipment, led lights. And they adopt laminate that has passed the international standard healthy green building materials label as the wall panels, which meets the indoor air quality. Also, it isn’t harmful to the environment, so it maximizes the green energy contribution to the society.
