Project Brief

The entire space is a commercial bistro. In consideration of space configuration, the color scheme is based on the use of retro elements as the main axis of the space, as well as the hope that guests can enjoy a spacious and comfortable atmosphere that meets their different needs. At the same time, while maintaining the harmony of the overall style of the space, the designers have made more ingenious changes. In the overall configuration, the three spaces - cigar room, wine cellar, and private booths - are presented as varying glass cubes with multiple layers under the high ceiling and within the overall low and calm spatial tone. Furthermore, in line with the functional requirements of each venue, the designer have set up exclusive corresponding functions: air conditioning, temperature control, cabinet design, dynamic circulation planning, etc. were comprehensively evaluated so that the space between each venue is consists of both functional and aesthetic spatial qualities in hopes of guests indulging in a comfortable and high-end atmosphere under the wide space and layered materials.

Project Innovation/Need

This case is a mixed-use commercial space. In addition to a restaurant area for dining and conversation, there is also a storage room dedicated to the collection of items. Spaciousness and transparency are the main axes of the overall space setting. Under the distribution of smooth circulations, the use of high ceiling space design allows the independent booths and storerooms to present a layered and changing appearance. At the same time, in response to the demands of different spaces, the designer have adopted an exclusive design for temperature and humidity control, the configuration of corridors, the cutting of cabinet laminates, and the application of ventilation grills for proper allocation of functions, so that each space consists of both function and aesthetics. Moreover, the designer especially adopted “retro” as the overall style of the construction. In the application of colors and the selection of flooring materials, the designer used dyed leather, wood materials, black iron, red bricks, glass, and other elements as the media to gradually bring out the overall harmony of the space under the same retro quality, creating a unique atmosphere in the warm and restrained scene.

Design Challenge

In the deployment of the wine cellar, in addition to picking exquisite materials, the emphasis on functional control is also considered in many aspects. The exclusively-designed humidification configuration that measures the height of the ceiling and the coordination with the air conditioning system installment was first made while installing a special temperature and humidity regulator, then the design of the air intake duct that forces the air back to the space to return to the airflow was decided upon. The use of air mesh and natural wood partitions also helps adjust the overall temperature and humidity.

Sustainability

The walls in the space are covered with red brick slices, which are not unnecessarily processed and maintain the natural color of the materials. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it also enhances the nostalgic tone of the whole space. In addition, the design of the ceiling utilizes laminated veneer lumber and dyed plywood that presents the original appearance of the materials, while the material of the flooring is directly dyed larch, so that the subsequent recycling of materials and sustainability can be considered together to achieve sustainable planning for a friendly environment.
