Project Overview

Hong Kong plays a key role in Belt & Road Initiative as a super-connector. Modern infrastructure shaping the future, which is like planting. Have a good seed, sowing and watering. Hong Kong Infrastructure and real estate – related services (HKIRES) participated in lots of fundamental projects, that is professional and full of experience as an advantage. Same as planting, nutrition and water is required. Under B&R development, Hong Kong can get infinite opportunities especially economic benefit, which helps future development; as such, planting concept was the central design focus.

Project Brief

Modern infrastructure shaping the future, which is like planting. Have a good seed, sowing and watering. Hong Kong Infrastructure and real estate – related services (HKIRES) participated in lots of fundamental projects, that is professional and full of experience as an advantage. Under B&R development, Hong Kong can get infinite opportunities especially economic benefit, which helps future development; as such, planting concept was the central design focus. To portray Hong Kong, we use real Hong Kong’s map and terrain. The mini Hong Kong create a big contract with six scaled-up highlights, which emphasized the benefits under Belt & Road Initiative (B&R).

Project Innovation/Need

This exhibition shows the benefit of the future of Hong Kong in Belt & Road Initiative (B&R). We used a scaled-down map of Hong Kong to foresee its future. The aluminum poles represent high-rise which is an icon of Hong Kong. Also, the height of the poles refers to the real Hong Kong’s terrain. Hollow pattern on the poles was combined with the light effect coming from the bottom. The light passed through the pattern and symbolized a prosperous future of Hong Kong. The six huge pillars represent six economic growths and the leaf shape seems to infinity symbol, means Hong Kong have infinite opportunities to well develop in the future and match to our theme, planting.

Design Challenge

The most challenging part was the manufacturing process of the aluminum poles. As the complexity of the hollow pattern, the manufacturing time for each is longer than expected. It required to use 2-3 months to produce more than 3000 poles. Another challenge is to fix the location of each poles. It is long and limited surface area, it shakes when it stands. Finally, we solved the problem by using magnet to fix the position of each pole.

Sustainability

The pattern on aluminum poles were made by die cutting technology. The light used LED which is small and bright. It was easy to hide inside the aluminum poles. The top of 6 pillars was made by fiberglass which is light. It reduced the weight of a pillar and easy to transport and assemble.
