Project Context

Currently aimed towards ageing populations, the aura suit seeks to give its uses the strength and support to live active lives through enhanced mobility. The product’s mission is to expand the social lives of ageing populations and extend the window during which they can remain independent, active and connected.

Project Innovation

Using artificial intelligence, motors and sensors to react to the body’s movements, the aura suit adds muscle power to aid the wearer with motions such as standing up and sitting down, balance and general mobility. Through these electric muscles located on the torso, hips, legs and back, the suit is also able to provide individualised and subtle support to the user.

The design uses a lightweight and flexible material that effectively acts as a second layer of supportive skin. Notably, the aura suit is unique in its approach towards innovation for the ageing population and embraces modern design, fabrics and colours.

Design Challenge

The aura suit strays from the standard approach to innovation for the elderly, which often has a tendency to mollycoddle and promote a static lifestyle. Instead, the aura powered suit's design encourages the ageing population to continue to move about and engage with the world.
