Project Brief
Principle Design were privileged to provide design assistance and strategy to Art Education Victoria, an organisation that supports and represents visual arts based educators throughout the state. Principle Design was tasked with refreshing the brand of AEV, their brand collateral and giving complete overhaul to their website.
Project Innovation/Need
Special consideration needs to be given to the brand identity of AEV to form a holistic image that conveys its brand values and the services it provides. Rebranding is needed to bring jolt of the organisation regeneration.
Art Education Victoria’s identity needed to be down to earth and unpretentious yet filled with purpose to engage with diverse stakeholders and funders. A simple and flexible logo was created to create confidence and structure within the organisation. A focus toward the inclusion of Art, Education and Victoria was key emphasis of the three factors of this brand. The website was instrumental in creating solidarity within key stakeholders of the brand and inspiring users to explore the rich content of what AEV has to offer.
Design Challenge
Principle Design’s point of focus was to create a website that is responsive, engaging and tailored towards the creative target market. Influenced by reduced funding and a greater reliance on volunteer support, the new website needed to change its context in engaging the arts and education industry.
The flexibility and potential for extension that the brand language holds are demonstrated on the Art Education Victoria website. Graphic shapes layer photography in striking headers that capture user’s curiosity and invite them to explore the website’s rich content.
Effectiveness
“Art Education Victoria has recently undergone a website and brand redesign to help it better connect with and inspire the Victorian arts community and its educators. Principle Design not only designed a beautiful online space where our members want to congregate, but collaborated with us to help define our purpose and vision, which included defining how we would connect and support the arts community in the future. The newly redesigned website has been pivotal in enabling Art Education Victoria to connect with our audience and build connections amongst a geographically dispersed community. The website promotes online and offline opportunities, provides resources for the community, and serves a hub for the organizations vast social media community building efforts. The website has played a key role in supporting the vision of a vibrant and interconnected arts community through establishing stronger connections with partner organizations such as the National Gallery of Victoria, Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and Bendigo Art Gallery. We are on our way to becoming the first point of call for professional development with a focus on establishing excellence in visual arts education. Within the last two years, Art Education Victoria has undertaken radical organizational change so that we can better serve the needs of our community. This shift would not have been possible without Principle Design.” — Steve Marks, President of AEV
