20 July 2017

Over $3.9B worth of design projects has been recognized as winners are announced in the 2017 Melbourne Design Awards.

“The growth in the demand for design services, and the resulting economic activity they represent, shows just how important design and innovation are to the Victorian economy” said Melbourne Design Awards Chair Mark Bergin.

“We’re now seeing big corporates and SMEs alike turn to design to strategically drive growth and this is again reflected in the 2017 cohort of Melbourne Design Award winners” Mr Bergin added.

Award winners were drawn from across of Melbourne’s diverse design economy and include large corporates through to boutique design studios. Household names such as utilities company AGL and developer Lendlease were both recognized as gold winners in branding and marketing categories respectively, and as was ANZ for a project collaboration with Deloitte Digital. In total 60 Gold and 88 Silver winners were announced in categories ranging from architecture and interior design to graphic and digital design.

Winners will receive their trophies at a cocktail event held at the Melbourne Design Award winning venue Higher Ground on 16 August. The Best of the Awards Categories will be announced and awarded at each presentation.

Now in its eighth year, the Melbourne Design Awards have recognised hundreds of outstanding design projects, and the quality of which continues to increase and challenge the status quo.

''Year on year we see a growing sophistication in the Melbourne design marketplace. This year is no exception” Mr Bergin said.

“The courage demonstrated by clients and creative teams is the powerhouse behind a strong pool of award winners.”
