Project Overview

Cacao produce handmade chocolates, macarons and pastries with the best ingredients using traditional French techniques, combined with contemporary flair. Their products embody the idea of ‘special’ and they engaged Rock Agency to create a website that could do the same – that would give customers a highly-personalised, streamlined and user-friendly shopping experience.
The result takes customisation to the next level. With the chocolate and macaron selectors, customers can tailor their chocolate or macaron boxes by individual handmade pieces, and see exactly how their box will be presented.
Rock’s work on Cacao has been extremely well received by the client and the market – after launching the site the company more than doubled its sales.

Project Brief

To provide their customers with a shopping experience that reflects the quality and luxury of their brand and products, Cacao needed a site that combined beautiful visuals, a cohesive tone of voice and exceptional functionality. Operational simplicity was also imperative for Cacao to manage ongoing updates to the site without compromising integrity.

Project Need

The Cacao website and shopping experience was designed as a sensory journey that brings the customer as close to the quality of Cacao’s products as possible. Luxury is reflected not only through the site’s beautiful imagery, design, and tone of voice, but in its user-friendly elements that make it pleasurable to browse, and simple to navigate and purchase.
To manage Cacao’s individual chocolate and macaron selector functionality, we created a ‘product-within-a-product’ that’s connected to Cacao’s inventory system – it’s made a significant difference to Cacao as a business, saving them from manual data input, increasing time-efficiency and revenue.

User Experience

The customer was kept front-of-mind in every decision that was made about the Cacao site; it was important to strike the right balance between stunning design and user-experience. The information architecture provides simplicity and clarity, and the ‘selector’ function adds a level of customisation often limited by online environments. Customers are able to tailor chocolate and macaron boxes down to each individual piece, and see exactly how their products will appear. The goal here was to demystify the online shopping experience – to give customers not only total control, but a full visual representation of their purchase including how it’s packaged and presented. This functionality helps to justify the price point, which has been a hurdle for the brand in the past.

Project Marketing

After launching their new site, Cacao marketed to their existing customer database via newsletter and through Google and social media ads. Their sales figures for December 2020 (after the site launch) show they more than doubled their orders and their revenue from December 2019. Cacao are highly satisfied with the work and the results.

Project Privacy

The Cacao site comprises a comprehensive privacy policy that’s easily accessible. Cacao takes privacy very seriously, and, therefore, outlines its policy in detail and in plain english. The Cacao site is secured using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software. For more information see: https://www.cacao.com.au/pages/privacy-policy
