Project Brief

The depiction of botanical here is not literal – but rather representational. The glasshouse symbolises protection from the elements and a nurturing environment to live and thrive.

Project Innovation/Need

Off white heritage reproduction steel metal work is used to separate the dining area from the kitchen. Refined iron seating compliment the pastel coloured scatter cushions while the blue stained plywood table tops offset with the pigmented concrete floor. Colours found on the bark of a eucalypt tree.
Draping foliage spilling over suspended baskets brings a softness and freshness to the space reminiscent of a glasshouse. The antique pendant light and columns within the space were hand selected for their natural beauty and connection to the Victorian Era, something that cannot be reproduced.

Design Challenge

As the internal floor space was limited, the main constraint and challenge was providing sufficient areas for storage. This challenge was overcome with the successful integration of full height shelving and joinery as design elements to both the front of house and kitchen. The crockery is visible through the frosted wire glass and along the kitchen pass, their pastel colours harmonise wonderfully with the internal design scheme.
The design of Banksii exemplifies the beauty found within a glasshouse. By creating various levels of opacity and transparency with glass, screening and joinery elements the space is soft and inviting. A touch of nostalgia in a newly developed suburb of Sydney.

Sustainability

Recycled building materials were used within the project.
