Project Brief
Our brief from the client was to establish an online identity and web portal that would familarise the public with the Lantern books and enable book byers to develop a connection with the brand, which Lantern is not currently achieving via sales through catalogue only online retailers like Amazon.
Project Need
We worked closely with the client throughout the whole process to really flesh out the solid set of wireframes necessary to create a dynamic online portal that would help Lantern achieve there goals of; allowing readers access to learn more about each Lantern title, tempting them to discover the brand and buy more and enabling journalists and book sellers to learn more about each Lantern title.
In approaching the re-fresh of Lanterns online identity we sought to emulate the same timeless charm Penguin is known for, deciding to focus on the idea of ‘books as a source of enlightenment’. For the logo’s design we created a mark symbolic of two open books, evoking the image of pages radiating out from the book’s spine representation of radiating light – a quirky reference to the Lantern name as well as the notion of enlightenment. We worked closely with the client to establish an online look and feel. Tying in with the new Lantern logo we drew inspiration from classic bordering and literary decoration. The result is fluid combination of functionality and timeless charm.
