Project Overview

Our designer specializes in construction a container for life, into which its dwellers thrust blooming flowers, filling it with profuse life experience like ever-running water that bears witness to the florescence and radiance. In keeping with the owner’s taste for simplicity and elegance, the overall design features modernity, combining diverse natural materials, such as hardwood and stone, in large quantities, thereby creating an unadorned but sleek feel. At the entrance, the public section that connects the living and dining room has an open layout. Large, long French windows and the balcony take in the bustling urban scene, with sunlight spilling indoors. Seasonal changes alternate here, and the sun rises as the moon sets - all these become an intimate part of life through the French windows, allowing the dwellers to enjoy closeness to nature even in a city.

Project Brief

A narrow strip of abundance, Taiwan is an island rich in distinct natural landscape and scenery, and imbued with a culture characterized by simplicity and naturalness. Located at the heart of a commercial zone in Taipei, Pure White, Elegance is a housing unit covering 182 square kilometers that boasts a superb view of skyscrapers lining the downtown streets. A retired couple living overseas, after years of homesickness, have decided to settle in Taiwan and live with their elderly parents and young daughter—three generations living together, enjoying a space that is both convenient and cozy.

Project Innovation/Need

The living room and dining room are filled with a mellow texture as a result of the light-tone wooden floor together with the wooden dining table, chairs and cabinets. The gray sofa echoes the dark gray TV cabinets, adding calmness and composure to the home. Cleverly constructed along a side table in between the living room and the dining room is a small working section. The open design highlights visual vastness, shaping a new form of spatial communication. The grille ceiling serves to steer the flow, while the warm color tone in the pubic area extends by means of plentiful wooden materials. The master bedroom in the back enjoys great privacy, with its wooden floor and upholstered walls presenting a delicate texture. As for the girl’s and the parents’ rooms, metal shelves are employed for a sense of openwork transparency, creating a visual effect of vastness in a limited space.

Design Challenge

Through the interplay of form, color and material, as well as a deliberate use of the void and a simple design, the owner’s low-profile affluence and subdued luxury are accentuated, while leaving room for free imagination and application, so that Pure White, Elegance can have a well-deserved life of its own.

Sustainability

With a simple design and fewer compartments, the natural lighting can be fully displayed in the penetrating space.
The concept of energy saving (LED lighting) and local obtained materials are practiced in the space.
