Project Overview
Across almost every industry, data is the key driver of business insights, solutions, and results. But how do you make the most of your data when it comes from diverse sources, in different formats, and is stored—and potentially duplicated—across applications that don't even talk to each other? Complicating things further, many enterprises have multiple sources of competing data, making it almost impossible to know which data sets are the most relevant and accurate.
The solution to all of these problems is IBM Master Data Management (MDM). IBM MDM is designed to help you know your data, trust your data, and use your data with confidence. IBM MDM provides clean, consistent, and timely information that empowers you with trusted master data and a 360-degree view of your customers to drive deeper insights and business transformation.

Project Brief
The world is driven by data. Almost every interaction we have generates more data. In the absence of a reliable system to handle the constant flow of incoming data, businesses can quickly find themselves information-rich but insight-poor; spending all their time collecting and cleaning data, but very little time figuring out what it means and how to use it to spur growth.
IBM MDM has an established reputation built on providing businesses with the necessary infrastructure to help deal with data clutter to extract value. But the market has evolved. Now, to remain competitive, companies require faster setup, onboarding, and time-to-value. They need a modern solution developed to make them more self-sufficient while maintaining the same level of expertise and the foundation of trust and reliability they've come to expect over the years.
In response, IBM leveraged cross-discipline collaboration to reimagine the IBM MDM experience from the ground up, with a special focus on initial setup and configuration. We've accelerated the time requirement from months to weeks by embedding Watson AI and machine learning under the covers, and made it possible to have an expert-level MDM system without needing an MDM expert to set it up.
Project Need
Until now, configuring and setting up a master data management system required a team of highly trained data management experts, data modeling professionals, and algorithm specialists. The process demanded months of manual coding, customization, and trial and error to get the system established, followed by high-touch engagement with support specialists for any changes required during ongoing maintenance.
The new IBM MDM user experience provides an intuitive interface, with embedded AI and ML assistance, that empowers a single, non-specialist data engineer to set up a data management system within a matter of weeks, all without writing a single line of code.
User Experience
Clients are at the heart of our design efforts. Knowing a client means having a deep and clear understanding of the problems they face. Our team is on track to receive and integrate usability feedback from nearly 100 registrants in our UX Beta Testing Program. Additionally, we produced the final IBM MDM design concept using the robust, user experience-driven IBM Design Language, meeting IBM’s Ethical AI and Accessibility standards.
In the new IBM MDM user experience, you no longer need a highly trained technical professional to manually code the data model on your behalf. When you connect data sources, IBM MDM uses embedded IBM Watson AI technology to analyze the data, display a custom and interactive data model, and automatically map your source targets. You're presented with a data mapping confidence score, which explains why AI decisions were made and allows you to override automation choices if the confidence score is too low. This transparency is designed to build trust in the automation process and give you ultimate control over your mapping outcomes.
Evaluating your results after matching and mastering your data is designed to be an equally straightforward and intuitive process. By visualizing key metrics and entity statistics, it's easy for you to assess the quality of your algorithm performance at a glance, and to adjust your settings as needed. Because no two customers are exactly the same, the results page was built with flexibility in mind, and it continues to be tested for usability and value.
Project Marketing
IBM MDM supports an online community of engaged participants who seek out and share advice with their industry peers, communicate with IBM MDM experts on best practices, and stay up to date with IBM regarding product enhancements, user group meetings, webinars, how-to blogs, and newly available materials. A library of resources is also maintained to catalog and share out group discussions, file uploads, and other resources that will help you learn and build your skills. Anybody who's interested can join the conversation and contribute to the collective advancement of the tools and the MDM community.
Project Privacy
IBM MDM provides secure, governed, self-service access to trusted data across the enterprise for experimentation and collaboration. With built-in consent management, you can capture customer consent to facilitate governance and adhere to regulatory compliance requirements. Designed to operate seamlessly within the IBM Unified Governance and Integration platform, IBM MDM contributes to and benefits from the rich capabilities of the product portfolio to ensure that customer data integrity is maintained and privacy is enforced at every step of the data journey.
