Project Overview
The Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure (SURUS) is a flexible fuel cell electric truck platform with autonomous capabilities.
Organisation
Project Context
In essence, SIRUS can be thought of as a quartet of wheel units, each with its own motor and each able to independently steer. Bound together by a chassis, the platform is intended to be equipped with self-driving software and can support a variety of form factors, depending on what the end user desires. It aims to solve the toughest transportation challenges created by natural disasters, complex logistics environments, and global conflicts.
Project Innovation
SURUS features a new Hydrotec fuel cell system, autonomous capability and truck chassis components to deliver high performance, zero-emission propulsion to minimise logistical burdens and reduce human exposure to harm. SURUS' benefits include quiet and odor-free operation, off-road mobility, field configuration, instantaneous high torque, exportable power generation, water generation, quick refueling times and multi-terrain capabilities.
It offers a solution that can scale to larger vehicles with large payload requirements and operate over longer distances. SURUS was designed to form a foundation for a family of commercial vehicle solutions that leverages a single propulsion system integrated into a common chassis. The SURUS platform is equally well-suited for adaptation to military environments where users can take advantage of flexible energy resources, field configurability and improved logistical characteristics.
Sustainability
Fuel cell technology represents a key piece of General Motors' zero emission strategy.
Concept - Object
Conceptual Design celebrates the projects that are yet to be realised. They are may be creative ideas, imagined future states or thought pieces intended to start a conversation. This category rewards the blue sky thinking that is needed to drive design forward.
The object category celebrates creative and innovative design for an object or product. Consideration is given according to the design context and need, design innovation and the application of human centred design principles.
