Project Overview

CityAirbus is Airbus’ concept for a self-piloted battery powered aircraft designed with the latest safety standards to transport four passengers for inner-city flights.

The vehicle is slated to have a pilot onboard at first but would switch to full autonomous operations as and when technology developed.

Airbus added that the aircraft will operate on fixed routes with speeds up to 120 kph (80 mph).

The development of the CityAirbus itself is on-going. The first structural parts have already been produced and are on the way to being assembled. These important development steps pave the way to the CityAirbus’ first flight before the end of 2018.

Conceptual Design celebrates the projects that are yet to be realised. They are may be creative ideas, imagined future states or thought pieces intended to start a conversation. This category rewards the blue sky thinking that is needed to drive design forward.

All systems are designed to serve a purpose – and that purpose is to serve people. Systems design optimises systems performance by systematically focusing on the human component - human capacities, abilities, limitations and aspirations.
