Project Brief

The World Health Organisation says there are issues, our own Government and global authorities highlight concerns ... the Healthy Home App reveals information that families need to create a healthy home.

A whole new insight into the personal benefits of overhauling our homes to create beautiful, sustainable spaces that promote wellbeing.

With the increase in asthma, allergies, chemical sensitivities and other illnesses related to indoor pollutants a healthy home has never been more important. Families are being encouraged to seal homes for greater energy efficiency. Being an energy efficient consumer is advisable and beneficial, however when restricting passive ventilation we then need to follow through with minimising pollutants within the houses.

Take a walk through your home and complete the quiz to identify health assets and challenges. Discover tips and resources to help you create a healthy home for your family.

Project Need

There is an overall global need for people to understand the connection between consumer choices, health of the environment and the connection to personal health. A complex and time consuming concept to communicate, however an increasingly important concept for people to understand given global warming concerns, increased pollution and the increase in public health issues and costs.

The Healthy Home App provides individuals with a user friendly tool that highlights the personal benefits of informed consumer choice and emphasizes the personal health reasons for making environmentally conscious daily decisions in and around the home.

The App acts as a portal of simplified collated information from global organisations reaching into homes to instigate positive personal and social change.

The Healthy Home App user experience outcome is that users become informed and engaged with their role as a consumer and the very real personal consequences.

The Healthy Home App social outcome is that individuals alter their behavior to prevent personal illness and protect their health through informed decisions, indirectly making decisions that are better for community health and the environment.

Families need a personal reason to change their existing behaviors, along with "How to" guidance on where to start. There is no better incentive than personal health, a win for families and win for the environment.

The Healthy Home App helps people help themselves with a grand mission of changing consumer demands for the benefit of the environment and human health.

User Experience

When entering the App the user names their quiz so that the App caters for the option of multiple homes to be quizzed/assessed. This was important so that the App was not limited to one home, allowing the messages of the App to be shared in other homes.

The Healthy Home App is in a quiz format to allow the users to walk through their home and answer yes/no based questions. When a question is answered it identify's if the answer is a potential challenge or asset and provides a Tip button for the user to read further information. The Tip component to the quiz is a vital element to the App as it provides reasoning and suggestions, where applicable links to authorities with further information are provided so that the user experience can be as short or detailed as desired.

For each question the user can take notes, add photo or favorite the "Tip" for future reference, this functionality is an important part of assisting the user to facilitate changes in and around the home after taking the quiz.

A list of challenges and assets is created as questions are answered in the quiz so that users can revisit their list of homes challenges for action over time.

The content in the App has been written to appeal to people globally, using links from global sources. Healthy homes and connection between the home environment and occupant health is a global issue.

Project Marketing

The Healthy Home marketing strategy is initially to connect with a range of individuals that have an existing motivation or understanding as to the connection between health and indoor environment.

The groups of people identified as having existing motivation are ; pregnant women, new mothers, asthma & allergy sufferers, those who are currently ill seeking good health.

The groups identified as having an understanding of the health impacts of environmental pollutants are ; organic food consumers, organic/natural product consumers, natural health care practitioners/associations

Subsequent to individuals above there is the build and renovating consumer market.

Connecting with these groups of people identified above will be facilitated across multi media. Radio - 3AW announced the launch of the App. Subsequent marketing includes via public talks, magazine editorial coverage, community tv, facebook social media via individuals and relevant facebook groups.

Within the App where organisations have been mentioned/linked, these organisations have been contacted and provided with graphic adverts to promote their mention in the App, indirectly promoting the availability of the Healthy Home App while engaging the user from their known source.

Healthy Interiors professional design contacts have also be contacted about the App and the App already features as a recommended App product on a respected Melbourne sustainability focused Architects webpage.

Entering competitions such as this will also raise public awareness of the Healthy Home App.
