Project Overview

Tea'Stone is new retail brand of pure tea consumption in China. Its fourth store in Shenzhen Mixc is the first new concept store of the brand. How to continue the existing business logic of the brand, meet the iterative demand of function and market, and stand out from many similar brands in full bloom, is the focus of this case. The core idea of space design is to draw inspiration from traditional Chinese architecture, to deconstruct and express the eaves and beam column structure of Chinese architecture with contemporary understanding and design language, so that the traditional culture and spirit can be reborn and continued in the contemporary era.

Project Brief

When the moving door is opened, a light color space with elegant and fashionable charm can be seen. From the overall situation of the space to the control of details, the interior space design follows the brand's consistent way of innovation, and achieves the expression of the clean temperament of the space with a younger and more timely visual presentation.
The interior space design also takes the essence of traditional architecture, takes "beam" as the theme of visual composition, uses the expression of contemporary art, enlarges the scale of beam, removes the redundant historical heaviness, and refines it with modern design language.
The relationship between high and low blocks is freely superimposed, scattered and extended over the space, forming a ceiling area full of sense of installation and drama, which adds a sense of rhythm and interest to the long and narrow space form, reasonably responds to and balances the consideration of actual operation and the understanding of commercial space, and greatly enhances the brand recognition.
The two 16-meter-long bars under the crossbeam display the ancient methods of Han and Tang Dynasties and modern technology in front of every guest, aiming to present the best state of each kind of tea. Full open seat layout, simple lines and moderate sense of wood, all express the details of the space, the transition is natural and harmonious. It not only enriches the space level, but also meets the needs of different consumer groups.

Project Innovation/Need

Make subtraction based on tradition, create an immersive consumption space, select the core factors of oriental aesthetics, take the traditional beams and eaves as the spiritual core, outline the contemporary simple tea space. The space is full of exquisite, warm, delicate. Combined with the "one person, one seat" tea drinking way, Tea'Stone Mixc store makes tea a beautiful way of life. Whether alone or together, we can be happy.
Tea'Stone combines modern aesthetic design theory system, makes innovative design for Chinese tea from drinking method, utensils, packaging, environment, experience and marketing, and provides systematic solutions for modern tea life. It hopes that through continuous exploration of tea drinking aesthetics and space aesthetics, the long silent tea drinking context will be rejuvenated and attract more young people to pay attention to Chinese tea, like Chinese tea, establish the recognition and confidence of native pure tea.
At the same time, as a new phenomenal brand in the tea consumption market, Tea'Stone breaks the stereotype of young people that pure tea is hard to drink, and develops a "immersive experience new retail" mode of pure tea consumption, which is welcomed and sought after by young groups, and sets off a new fashion trend of drinking pure tea in Shenzhen.

Design Challenge

Tea'Stone Mixc Store is located on the second-floor platform of Shenzhen Mixc Shopping Mall, but its narrow location is not conducive to the rapid discovery and arrival of consumers. In order to solve this limitation, after repeated rounds of deliberation with the brand, the designer decided to make full use of the architectural conditions of the store's facade, built a 4-meter-high and 30 meter-long eaves with white metal tiles, which is like a contemporary abstract art picture, so that the store's facade which originally retreated behind the platform leaped out of the building, and consumers can get the view of the store for the first eye even when they are in the distance of the first floor of the mall. Through a simple and powerful design expression of the facade, a strong visual impact is achieved and the humanistic flavor that the brand hopes to convey is expressed.

Sustainability

In terms of materials, recycled stone conforming to NSF certification (National Sanitation Foundation), greenward certification and LEED green building certification is selected as the ground pavement. All wood grain finishing materials adopt metal aluminum plate surface as wood grain transfer film technology to replace solid wood materials. It aims to reduce the felling of trees and protect forests.
The recycled marble of "Santa Margherita" is selected as the ground pavement material of the project. The brand product meets NSF certification (National Sanitation Foundation), greenward certification and LEED green building certification. All wood facing materials of the project adopt wood grain transfer film technology on the surface of metal aluminuim plate to replace solid wood materials. It aims to reduce the felling of trees and protect forests.




This award celebrates innovative and creative building interiors where people eat and drink - this includes bars, restaurants, cafes and clubs. Judging consideration is given to space creation and planning, furnishings, finishes, aesthetic presentation and functionality. Consideration also given to space allocation, traffic flow, building services, lighting, fixtures, flooring, colours, furnishings and surface finishes.
