Project Overview

Inspired by aesthetics of eastern cultural gardens, the overall layout of the base focuses on creating an axis that balances the space. Other than bringing in lots of multilevel plantings and utilizing features of the base, the design team also introduces an aquatic ecosystem into the base by creating a belt ecological pond. This can not only help moderate the temperature but also build a conceptual narrative of a cultural garden of greenery. With the capacious window view, users inside the building can enjoy the green and find peace of mind.

Project Brief

The team took the surrounding environment into consideration in the designing process. Cooperating with the terrain feature that is high in the east and low in the west, the team kept the concept of eastern cultural gardens in mind, and utilized the odds and ends space by bringing in the eco elements through the belt ecological pond. The pond runs through the base from east to west, leading people to the entrance on west. With the lively ecopark and Dali River nearby, this becomes a complete ecotope.

Project Innovation/Need

The space in front of the entrance is deliberately left out, not only for visual intensity, but for parking or any possible activities. Two old camphor trees stand next to the pond, echoing the greenery around. They were kept when the old factory was torn down, representing strong vitality of the cooperation and the respect it holds toward nature. The water flows in the pond, fishes swimming in it, and on the sides are dense bushes around the building. Next to the entrance stands trees that grows with the seasons. This all shows the richness in liveliness and layers of artsy visual intensity. The statue of a galloping horse collaborating with the clam greenery, brings out the delicacy in the design.

Design Challenge

The natural theme goes on in the back yard with the Dali River and ecopark environment. Although a wall stands in between outside and the backyard, there are openings on it. This way, the outside and inside is connected, and the neighbors can enjoy the greenery and artsy vibe inside the garden, which achieves the originally goal set for the venue: to share. This way of enjoying the view through a frame also adds a sense of humor. The scenic trail is surrounded by deciduous trees and multilevel plantings. When the sun shine through the leaves and cast mottled shadows, it looks just like a picture. One that is bright and relaxing, and channels the space into an ambience for both people and nature.

Sustainability

Developing the land in a lowest impact way, building an environment-friendly base, planting multilevel plantings and combining them with the ecological pond that surrounds the building, the design team aims to create a realm where people and nature can marry beautifully. The greenery and eco pond not only help with the climate, but also connect the base with the nature around it. Inspired by the idea of a mircohabitat, extension of the ecological passageway and the high green coverage ratio are all efforts made to provide sufficient growing space for plants and insects. People, the nature and art blend beautifully in the space, and creates a sphere of human ecology.
