Project Brief

The building is located on the banks of the Love River, therefore, you can see the both sceneries, a small bridge over the flowing stream and the seascape in the distance, bring out a infinite vigour and vitality which you will feel a little distance to the nature. Since the designer had known the best of the geographical environment, he combined with the client’s need, a house for vacation, which led the nature landscape to the room. With the contrast between black and white color and the wood, stone, iron material decorations in a picturesque disorder as well as the outline which is guided by the curved surface, the space founds a coexistence of nature and technology. Furthermore, the open desk and cabinet behind it create a multi-functional space; in the other direction, the kitchen area, is composed of the log, stone made kitchen counter and a glass partition as a transparent structure. Moreover, the designer used the element, arc as the core design of this maison including the internal and external which made the design of space more consistent so that this place would be suitable for the client to entertain his friends as a holiday resort.

Project Need

The building is located on the banks of the Love River in Kaohsiung. Not only you can embrace the spectacular scene from the height of 14th floor but also you can see the seascape in the distance. Since the designer had known the best of the geographical environment, he chose a large amount of wooden material that both satisfied the sense of touch and sight. What’s more, he also established some multi-functional corner design so as to make more spaces of living. In terms of usage and sensibility, respectively fulfill the aesthetic living that carries the urban landscape and the reflection of the inner feelings of the resident.

Design Challenge

With the application of wave design and refined construction techniques, the wooden curved edge and the vertical cabinet barrel in the space brings out a novel and ample feeling by the cooperation between the designer and the carpenter. However, other material such as pattern of the partial curved mirror surface is also made by the carpenter in advance, then handed over to the glass factory for completing and assembled it on site. In addition to the sharp difference between design and actual method of making it, there are still a lot difficulties in cementing individual materials. Additionally, in order to build a house that meets the client’s expectation which the height of the living room does not create any pressure when staying in it. Therefore, with the inherent defect of the central support beam, the designer uses a curved enwrapped girder to create a innovative pattern. Nevertheless, by the inborn curved column, the designer makes comparing heights so that the client can feel released when entering the living room from the entry

Sustainability

Because of the large area of curved facade in the space, the designer chooses the most concise manner to maximize the possibility of the reduction of the construction, which is a vertical system build cabinet, combined with a wooden curved edge, and processed into different facades that are flexible. Not only it shall reduce the waste of custom-designed furniture, but also increase the function of storage in the space via the operation of the cabinets. In addition, the front and rear walls of the living room are designed with several simple cabinets next to the windows, so as to let the client place plant ornaments in the future. With the greenery, even if the place won’t always be occupied with people, it can still be vivid and thriving.
