Project Overview

Devexperts is a company that develops software solutions for the capital markets industry. The company specializes in high-loaded systems that are complicated by their nature, so they wanted the office space to reflect that with a minimalistic and functional workplace, where people feel at home and build value in an eco-friendly, creative atmosphere.
Vector Mais was appointed to design and build the new Porto Office. The design team was given a brief with detailed guidelines namely to consider the new Devexperts office as a living organism, an ecosystem where balance is important. As a result of our strive for balance, the space possesses clean lines, glass surfaces and an abundance of natural light.
The main entrance is a passage into a different world, a gateway to who we are and what we do. The lighting fixtures were designed to be beautiful, but also to make workspaces comfortable for the eyes and to reduce energy consumption. The use of color aims at creating energy and joy and the materials are simple and of the highest quality. There is a flow; movement, energy, a somewhat natural motion of things amidst man-made design. Change as a natural state.

Project Brief

The “out of the box” philosophy of Devexperts allowed Vector Mais to create a project that develops in an irregular circuit with angles that deconstruct the regularity of the building and materialize a mixture of workspaces with informal zones where color plays a decisive role in the projection of a creative atmosphere. The recurrent use of non-orthogonal directions reflects this unconventional line of thinking always present in Devexperts.
An important part of the brief from the client was to give staff a variety of areas to work and to interact in a variety of settings, to be able to choose the right space to fit the work being done.
The result was the development of a unique, functional, modern and comfortable space, with several technologically advanced zones in an open space to enable an even more collaborative environment with conditions of excellence for employees to perform their functions.
An innovative concept and a careful selection of materials, colors, textures, furniture and lighting have been developed that have contributed greatly to adapting the space to the new image of the company.

Project Innovation/Need

We worked very close with Devexperts to understand their goals and requirements, but most of all how to create a workplace that attracts talent. This approach was done through a layout that converge on a central location (The valley) were everybody can get together to work or socialize. This Innovation was demonstrated within the project through the materials and product choices like a national fabric call “Burel” used for aesthetic and acoustic purposes.

Design Challenge

Devexperts wanted to go with an industrial look and feel so this implied a challenge to control the space’s acoustics, namely due to the exposed ceiling slab. The solution was to create fabric acoustic panels above the workstations with the lighting features embedded to improve the acoustics.

Sustainability

As a company we request that all materials used on site e.g. timber and plasterboard, are responsibly sourced and FSC® certified where applicable. This ranges from the partition walls through to any joinery installed. Our 100% recycling policy on site ensures we fully divide our waste and ensure waste to landfills is kept to a minimum.
