Project Brief

The Adecco Group is the largest recruitment staffing firm in the world with offices in more than 60 countries.

The project was set out with the intention to design the “branch for the future” and included the adoption of an activity based working model. This is founded on the idea of task based working, and the removal of desk ownership.

The brief from Adecco also outlined an interior that would appeal to its highly-varied candidate base. There were three other brands of The Adecco Group that also occupied the space. Ajilon Finance, Ajilon IT and Badenoch & Clark.

Project Innovation/Need

Creating a space that appealed to the variety of job seekers that work with the Adecco Group was key to the project. As the world’s largest recruitment firm, it works across many sectors including, office, industrial, technical, financial and legal, among others.

The Amsterdam office had to present a workplace that facilitated interaction with this broad variety of skills and experiences, while comfortably expressing the different Adecco brands using the space. Through use of this brand neutral palette, and creation of zoned spaces of differing work styles, we fulfilled this requirement through the Activity Based Working (ABW) approach.

This agile working model supports a dynamic workforce supporting office utilisation, attracting and retaining the best talent, increased productivity, innovation and efficiency. A combination of open work booths, modular meeting zones, a transformable 'think tank' lab, and other meeting spaces give flexibility to staff and their tasks.

Hans Pruis, CEO The Adecco Group (the Netherlands), said: “The new office is a meeting environment in which you step in and focus on a certain job, can work on your personal development via coaching, training or testing or to discuss workplace issues. The space meets the challenges on every level related to work, to get expert advice or to meet new people who can add value to your current work, career or business.”

Design Challenge

The intent was for the office not to simply be an office, but to be a place to build lasting customer/candidate relationships. A place to meet, collaborate, connect; a place to make every visitor feel comfortable and welcome; somewhere to inspire, challenge, impress and grow the business.

The challenge was to design an agile space that included all of the company’s brands harmoniously without having a clash of branded colours.

Our solution was to represent the various brands through integrated technology ‘at the click of a button’. The client had the ability to adapt the space using technology, tailoring the environment on an as need basis for the different brands and visiting candidates.

The space features exposed services throughout, a neutral palette and an expression of The Adecco Group’s primary brand colour.

Sustainability

At Unispace, we approach each of our projects with sustainability in mind. It is a core aspect of our methodology, regardless of the ultimate rating outcomes.

For the Adecco Group in Amsterdam, a number of materials were locally sourced reducing overall carbon footprint. These materials included plywood which was used as a skin for the majority of the bespoke joinery pieces, natural wool content was included for fabric selections, paint with low VOC levels and use of live planting throughout the workplace also enhanced oxygen levels for the team. This coupled with a variety of work settings, allows the user to move throughout the day depending on their task, encouraging well-being and promoting ergonomic use of the workplace.
