Project Overview
The almost completed Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou Express Rail Link, or 'Vibrant Express', will connect Hong Kong to the 25,000km of High Speed Rail Newtork throughout Mainland China and dramatically increase the comfort, convenience and time of these journeys.

Linking two of China's tourist-heavy megacities, the Hong Kong Vibrant Express Rail Link will halve travel time for commuters between Hong Kong and Guangzhou and provide passengers with the utmost comfort and convenience.
Project Innovation/Need
The 26-km Express Rail Link is vitally important to Hong Kong. It will link Hong Kong with major Mainland cities with significantly reduced traveling times. The project will reinforce Hong Kong as the southern gateway to the Mainland. It will play an unparalleled role in fostering closer social and economic ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland, injecting momentum and creating new opportunities for future development in the long-term.
The train comprises two trailer cars - one at either end - and six motor cars in the middle, with seating for 579 people. Designed to operate at maximum speeds of 350 km/h, the high-speed trains will be traveling at 200km/h on the Hong Kong Section of the Express Rail Link.
Direct trains to the following Mainland cities will be available upon commissioning of the Hong Kong Section of the XRL. As estimated, over a 50-year operation period, the Hong Kong Section of the XRL can save passengers about 39 million hours of traveling time per year on average.
Future Impact
The Express Rail Link features a sleek exterior design and stylish interior design, as well as a range of diversified facilities on board to provide passengers with comfortable and convenient journeys.
The March 2018 press release for the project provided first-hand experience reports of the Express Rail Journey. The users stated that the High Speed Train compartments are very quiet and spacious, and the train ran very smoothly during the ride. The greatest benefit of the Express Rail Link to Hong Kong residents will be their convenient and comfortable access to the Mainland as well as cross-boundary services, and trips to Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other major Mainland cities will be a breeze.
