Inside Out is a 28 page Action Plan designed to engage readers and inspire innovative future planning. It's a plan that will help build stronger communities from the inside out.

Project Brief

How do you create a buzz around a corporate Action Plan?
You discard pre-conceived ideas and cliches and create a publication that speaks to Logan's cultural and colourful diversity.

The design is not only playful and colourful, it also logically leads the reader through a series of information that articulates what's strong in the community, what people in the community want, our priorities and the success stories we can build on.

The publication helps spark the readers imagination with great visuals and succinct plain language.

Project Innovation/Need

We've thrown out the rule book with regards to corporate style. Yes, corporate style is always necessary but it can also be stifling, especially when the target audience is both corporate and community.

We needed Inside Out to be a publication that would make people sit up and take notice.

Essentially, we wanted this publication to be less about Logan City Council and more about the community and current and/or future programs that will inspire action.

Design Challenge

The challenge was to design an engaging publication for the Community Development Team, Logan City Council supporting staff, Councillors and the Logan community.

We needed to design a publication that would show the strength and aspirations of our diverse community but also provide a plan to show staff where to focus resources and energy.

Inside Out needed to be eye-catching but within a conservative budget for a print-run of 1500.

Effectiveness

The feedback, since going to print in January 2019, has been overwhelmingly positive, with one Councillor describing the publication as “schmick”!

Staff in other branches of Council are finding it a useful and easy to use tool to assist them with future planning and the Community Development Team are excited to have a document that reflects their team values of inclusivity, empowerment and support.

The City of Logan is a culturally diverse community with huge potential for growth. Inside Out is a resource tool for the many community groups and organisations that call Logan home. The vibrant design of Inside Out celebrates the passion, colour and cultural diversity of the City of Logan.




This award celebrates creative and innovative design for visual communication intended to engage and inform an audience about products, ideas or services. Consideration given to the technical, conceptual and aesthetic elements, audience engagement and message delivery.
