Project Overview

Introducing natural elements, exploring more possibilities of elegance and tranquility in life, the space is designed to be open, transparent, and luminous for one to enjoy the environment from all directions. Without use of air-conditioning, the designer attempts to create a healthy and organic environment to appreciate the ever-changing details of nature. The courtyard in the middle of the construction invites the most sunlight into the space, boosting ventilation by introducing the micro-climate from the lake nearby the site. There is no need for searching far, one can already get closer to nature, to feel the positive energy in this space where sunlight and breeze interweave beautifully.

Project Brief

While introduction of natural lighting is an important focus, the space is designed to have a similar vibe of international boutique hotel style. With the purity of white on the building facades, the irregular cuts of the tilted surface, interpret the diverse faces of nature: wind, light and water. The detailed changes of light and shadow cast on the building’s pure white palette and black lines, as it is the best canvas for nature to freely paint on. With greenery planted on four sides of the exterior, dynamic energy is infused to the space, in both visual and audible forms when interaction happens with light and wind. Thus, nature becomes the best decoration for the building, as well as the best vista looking from inside with many window installations.

Project Need

Integrating natural lighting into the environment, turning it into a positive energy that contributes to a healthy environment, the designer takes in three main features, warm earth tone, rounded lines and shapes, transparent and open plan, into the interior design. With beams and columns mostly exposed on the exterior, the interior is arranged without columns, to visually expand the size of the space. All the furniture used here exists for a reason; for decoration is adequate and not excessive, the blank space is thus left for users for more flexibility and possibilities, also for plantation and natural elements to live in. A harmonious balance of aesthetics and atmosphere, therefore, builds an organic warmth upon the space that will be user-friendly and wholesome.

Design Challenge

The elegant feature of the tranquility in the space embodies the lifestyle this design is trying to achieve. The color palette builds a vibe and quality that has characteristics of jade’s warmth and tenderness. The meandering and tilting lines travel freely in space. The gentleness of milk white and earth tone, embrace the sunlight and breeze bestowed by nature. The design creates a comfortable living environment where nature and art coexist, where lives are enriched.

Sustainability

Focusing on bringing in and integrating natural elements into the space, the designer not only creates a space that offers natural beauty, it also helps one stay closer to our environment. Through applying a great amount of French window installations, arranging a courtyard in the middle of the construction, and reducing use of barriers and partitions, natural lighting can be well perceived, shed on the warm interior color palette and the greenery planted inside. Without air-conditioning, the designer borrows the micro-climate from the lake near the site, which helps better the ventilation and creates a healthy, organic environment with the plantation around the building.
