Project Brief

As this project is an old residence of 84 square meters with comfortable American country styling of white color scheme, timber color, and patterned tiles. With the structural beam concealed, and genuine timber elements with German organic paint, and Japanese ceramic tiles, for the safety and health of the children. The short grille ceiling design between living room and dining area comfortably demarcated the two areas with added refined spatial vocabulary. Having converted the original tatami room into the bedroom and reading space for the boy, its external wall is embedded with cutlery cabinet adding warmth and comfort to the dining area so that the originally closed-off kitchen have become open-plan that also accommodates the placement of dining table and mini-bar, all of which has optimized the usage of the public domain, complemented by ceramic blue kitchen cabinet instead of the conventional white color tone.

Project Need

With a strong country styled space, the patterned tiles at the entrance and elegant coat cabinet, the theme makes its transition into the public domain with timber-patterned floor tiles, genuine timber dining table, barn-door design and blue ceramic kitchen cabinet, so whether it be material and color selection, or humble decorations, it manifests a comfortable country style while the timber-pattern tiles in the kitchen adds to the warmth of the country style.

Design Challenge

At the start of design process, in order to manifest the unique quality of country style, long timber-patterned floor tiles were chosen, but given the original floor was not level, and potential leak which the design team and the on-site construction team has spent much time dealing with, so as to ensure smooth completion.

Sustainability

In order to provide design adhering to the needs of the client, the design team leader indeed visited the existing residence of the client during the conception stage, so as to understand the living rituals of the client which would inform the future design considerations in function and aesthetics. The design team has selected environmentally friendly building materials with German organic paint for the whole interior with Japanese ceramic tiles to allow the children to stay away from allergy.
