Project Brief

There is no other earthquake iOS app that comes close to Oz Quake in functionality and usefulness. The app has reached Top 10 in Weather Category in More Than 80 countries!

Oz Quake app has received a lot of support from professional seismologists as well as from ordinary people interested in earthquakes who found the app not only to be the easiest to use, but also most feature rich and the fastest when it comes to earthquake alerts.

The app has a number of unique features including free push notifications for multiple locations of interest, historical earthquake data, flexible search filters and a beautifully crafted map showing hundreds of locations (earthquakes, seismic stations, volcanoes and nuclear power plants).

Project Need

This truly innovative app is used daily by thousands of people around the world.

Years ago Oz Quake was the first iOS app to offer free earthquake push notifications. Over the time it has got many more useful features and today it has become an indispensable tool for everyone who is interested in earthquakes and seismology.

At the moment it is the only app that displays a comprehensive list of active and erupting volcanoes together with seismic information.

Oz Quake is one of a few apps in the App Store that show tectonic plates boundaries.

Every month the app gets dozens of 5-star reviews from its users. They enjoy the speed, the functionality and the quality of the app.

Anyone who lives in a seismically active region would greatly benefit from using Oz Quake.

From a user review:

"Living in Hawaii, working for the State of Hawaii Civil Defense and the Department of Emergency Management for the City & County of Honolulu, you really do need the fastest alerts possible while living in the middle of the Ring of Fire. Tsunamis in Hawaii is a constant and yearly threat that can happen at a moments notice. Why not have the best tool on your personal phone and your work phone? It just made sense to me and it's accurate too!"

User Experience

The app features a modern user interface and offers a lot of functionality available to its users at their fingertips.

It is seamlessly integrated with Facebook and Twitter and allows users to quickly share earthquake information as well as mark earthquakes as "Felt".

The app is easy to use, it features a stunning map, its screens are full of relevant information.

User can switch between Standard, Satellite and Hybrid maps to see where exactly the earthquake's epicentre was.

All the user interactions with the app are thought through and usually do not take more than a couple of taps.

Oz Quake is localised to support most common languages: English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian and Russian.

The app supports retina display, iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and iPad/iPad Mini.

Project Marketing

Until recently the main focus of the project was to build the best earthquake app in the world. To achieve this we extensively used customer feedback to define the product's roadmap.

We feel that we have reached our goal and Oz Quake has finally become the best earthquake monitoring tool in the world (at least for iOS).

We did not promote the app in any way, so Oz Quake was never reviewed before by any of the app review web sites.

We will be starting to promote the app in the near future.

Project Privacy

User can stay anonymous if required.

To share information on Facebook or Twitter user needs to be authenticated with a social network and is required to give a permission for the app to post on Facebook or Twitter.
