Household brands and digital agencies clean up at the 2012 Australian Mobile Awards
Household names including Qantas, Renault, JB Hi-Fi, and the Commonwealth Bank all walked away with awards on the night, as did government bodies including Australia Post, the Victorian Department of Health and the NSW Food Authority.
The big winners on the night were creative agencies Bell George, Webling and Visual Jazz who took home the “Gold Mobie” for Best Development Studio according to their size.
Event organiser Mark Bergin says the quality of entries shows just how important the sector is.
“We’ve seen a fantastic response to the Mobile Awards and it’s terrific that some of Australia’s largest brands are not just active in mobile, but creating engaging and entertaining experiences for people, the best of which we’re rewarding with a Mobie.”
Despite over 5000 votes cast, two categories were impossible to split, with Fairfax Media and the Daily Telegraph sharing the News Category and both Bisolvon and Sony Pictures and Boehringer Ingleheim taking out the best mobile marketing campaign.
Bergin says the quality of the winners on the night shows how apps are continue to develop, moving from simple branded offerings to technologies that enrich and simplify tasks.
“This year we’ve seen astounding developments in content based apps as Foxtel’s London 2012 app and the JB Hi-Fi Now entry, as well as a clear trend towards branded companion tools that add value to people’s lives. Both the entry from Qantas and the CFA Fireready project are fantastic examples of this.”
“Interestingly all four of these apps are based in the cloud and are great examples of mobile and cloud coming together to create seamless product offerings.”
Nearly 250 projects were entered into the Mobile Awards and category finalists and winners were determined by a combination of marketplace voting and an industry judging panel. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Beresford Hotel in Surrey Hills, Sydney.
